What happened
Budget 2026 cut the tax collected at source (TCS) on some overseas remittances from 1 April 2026. Overseas tour packages and remittances for education and medical treatment now attract 2%.
Remittances for investment, including buying property abroad, were not part of that cut. Under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS), TCS on these stays at 20% on the amount above ₹10 lakh in a financial year, counted across all your remittances together. The overall LRS limit of USD 250,000 per person per year is unchanged.
